In Chapter 1, I want to talk about the earth. I envision a creature structured from the Four Sacred Beasts—guardian spirits that represent the cardinal directions of the land. These are mythical beings, yet they feel deeply familiar to those from the East.

Starting with a complete drawing of the Dragon, Qilin, Turtle, and Phoenix, I then deconstruct these images, burning or destroying the fragments before rebuilding a distinct structure for this creature.

Over 10,000 fragments have been created. I expect that each time this work is exhibited in a different location, it will appear in a different state.
